Gozo : June 2010

"HELLO MATES!"
Our holiday began at Heathrow and after a 3 hour flight to Malta, we travelled in taxis across the island to catch the ferry to Gozo. Brian and Stephania, our diving hosts from Atlantis Diving Centre were waiting to greet us and drove us to Marselforn, our home for the next 5 days. After completing the necessary dive paperwork and checking into our guesthouse, we were ready for our first beers and 'moderate glasses of wine' of the trip ...... many more were to follow!

Accommodation

We stayed in the Lantern Guesthouse, a small family run establishment. The rooms were clean and the best on offer for a guest house in Marselforn, but they were not salubrious by any means. Luckily we thought that the very short walk to and from the bars and restaurants on the waterfront more than compensated for this!

Diving with Atlantis Diving Centre

In a group of 14 divers, only two of us had dived in Gozo previously. For many this was the first opportunity of leaving behind Stoney Cove and venturing into the sea for the first time. For others it was their first experience of diving in the Mediterranean, slightly different than the ease of boat diving in Egypt!!

Congratulations and special mentions are due to all the divers for various reasons:
Alexis & Alex: for completing their qualifying dives and becoming certified OW divers. Also for conquering motion sickness Alexis!

Dave: for dealing with new diving situations and always keeping a smile on your face!

Leon: for realising that it is possible to end a dive with some air still left in the tank.

Jane: for overcoming some demons and now enjoying diving again!

The Browns and Anna: for diving in harder conditions than previously experienced.

Tracey & Sarah: for loving their first sea dives and managing to steer clear of Leon's flashlights and knives under water.

Kevin: for being a star both on the surface helping out, under the water for flitting from one group to another and in the bars for enhancing their profits.

Memorable Moments

* Seeing the smiles on Alex's and Alexis' faces once they had passed their OW.
* Telling everyone to "man up" when we were all trying desperately to tackle the challenging entry and exit points of The Blue Hole and Cathedral Cave. Did we really walk so far ?!
* "Every man for himelf" Leon needing comfort and reassurance when his little tooth got chipped ..... "Hello mate" - we love you really you big softie!
* Jane saying she was a "broken woman"!
* The fantastic food and not so fantastic wine in Las Olas restaurant - Mary's favorite establishment in Marselforn
* Kevin having a soft drink.
* Grown men deciding they like cucumber in beer and drinking out of straws!
